so there are tetris tournaments at wifitournament.com and i've decided that wifitournament.com is the biggest waste of time in the history of tetris tournaments.it's pretty much a poorly run, loosely organized tournament attempt by probably some seasened Nsider n00b.

So last night i had quite a few margaritas. My amazingly hot and tiger-in-the-bed girlfriend and i drank about 2/3 of a bottle of tequila while watching Oz (the HBO series) and i was getting in a few games against Bowser, bragging about how i could beat him drunk and watch Oz at the same time. WHEN I NOTICE MY CAT DRINKING OUT OF MY MARGARITA GLASS because he's addicted to ice cubes and he seizes every opportunity he has to lick an ice cube.This kind of pisses me off.
So i grumble, the cat darts away, and i HURL my ds lite in its general direction... and it promptly bounces off the table leg and the white plastic outside shattered into bits. Nevertheless... the ds refuses to work now.
so i'm in the market for another. but i might just wait until the wii comes out and use my ds lite fund-age as a down payment on the wii. the sad thing is... the ds that got broked is the one whose button action i preferred.

tetris, the new arena sport

so this is my thought:we get 40,000 screaming tetris fans together.
we use some of these huge JumboTron screens in Football/Baseball arenas to broadcast a 1v1 game or a 4p game. the players all play on the field. in chairs, across from each other.
we get all of the best tetris players together, boom, tournament.
and we charge admission.
$40 a head.
then we get our act together.
tetris teams, in every major city.
they play against other tetris teams.
we get huge TV contracts.
"Monday night Tetris on ABC, sponsored by Gillette"
Tetris jerseys, HOLiC bobbleheads, Cosmo bobbleheads, Sen bobbleheads, you get the idea.
we are eyeing the dawn of a burgeoning billion dollar industry my friends.. . . ..... more to come

dear tetris blog,i know you've been waiting for me to play games while i wasn't at work and the time has finally come: monday i hired some guy to work at my shop m-f from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. so now I DONT HAVE TO BE THERE. which is very nice.
Yeserday i sauntered over to a rival coffee shop (which is closer to my house), drank a 4 shot americano pretty quickly and started to play 2 player (i know i know).
I bumped into Millar and we exchanged a few games which bolstered my rating nicely (he was at about 8000 and i at 7700). Then i ran into TCM-DDD2 about 10 games in a row (he quit after each win) and he walloped me SO HARD. I have never seen my screen fill with garbage so quickly. I'm convinced DDD2 is probably the best 2p player in the world. anyway, he was at about 8080 so i only lost 3 points per game -- which was nice.
anyway i ran into an assortment of players... about 5 7500 players, a couple 6700ers and one 7850 fool and had a winning streak of about 30 games, a few favorable disconnects... and voila:
7930.
a new personal high for moi (that means "me" in french).
THE MAIN THING THAT HAPPENED: is this:
i played 2 4p games during the whole rigamarole. One was against a 7300 and some 5000's and i only gained THREE POINTS in each game. I think it's a helluva lot more worth it to play 2p games because i can gain the same paltry 3 points with SO much less risk and SO much less work.
Not that i'm advocating 2p games... but they're kind of nice after playing so many 4p games (i'm up to 4650 wins by the way for your information).
Anyway... after new tetris high i went to the martini bar and got promptly fucked up to celebrate my tetris score:
in case you're keeping tabs i had:
a 6 shot grey goose slightly dirty martini
an "alize-tini" 3 shots vodka, 3 shots alize
a grasshopper-tini
one glass of chardonnay
and then the bartender decided to give me free champagne so we could toast to my new high tetris score
and then he gave me another free glass of champagne so we could toast to a myriad of other things worth toasting to.
The End.
Now i'll probably pull a TGM-Liem and never play again.

a new leaf

yesterday after waitng for a bit for 4p games i got impatient and played some 2p games.went 10-0 against the 7150 rated "molefan"
i went 30-3 against one guy (his rating was above 6000, mind you)
and then won 12 of the next 14 games against 7300 players.
got my rating above 7400 playing 2p... which has never happened before. so now i have a reluctant interest in 4p games. I still don't want to have more than half the number of 4p wins i have... so i can only play about 400 games (or i've gotta start pounding out 4p games). Which, by the way, i have 4370 40 wins at the moment.
on a side note:
my new DS lite is really tempermental compared to the other 2. I've only played like 2000 games on it and the control is already getting sticky-ish. If i play about 30 games in a row (4p) it seems to get "too warm" and then it likes to stick more than when i turn it on in the morning. i don't want to get another new one though... entering FC's is hard.

troubled times like these

It took me an hour and fifteen minutes to get my first win this morning.Naturally every time that i would connect to a game a customer would saunter right in and plop their coffee-glutton ass right in front of my counter and look at me expectantly.
What i failed to mention is that this is a Tetris Shop that serves coffee. They don't know that either -- that's what happens when you make assumptions.
So i make myself a drink (because i need a drink this early) and a fly lands right on my powerbook and i clobber it with both hands. I hate killing flies with my hands but it's better than having flies around.... and as my hands come apart the F@#CKI#@NG dead fly lands RIGHT SMACK in the drink i just made.
I make myself a new drink, plop my ass into my tetris playing seat, blow a huge raunchy (hot-dog induced) fart and another 4p game starts... and some asshole comes in and wants coffee again.
it's troubled times like these that i ask myself: what would holden caulfield do?

After 3 days of absolutely no tetris and stagnating at about 3980 wins.... i busted out a shit-ton of wins and:BROKE THE 4000 4p WIN BARRIER.
I'm currently at 4075. I won something like 95 games today. You can applaud for me, i know it's impressive.
As far as i know (and i should know because i bet i play more 4p than anyone in the world, as lame as that sounds) i have more 4p wins than anyone on TDS.
Recently i've been biking while i play tetris and there is a clock on my bike. The average 4p game lasts 4 minutes... at 4 minutes per game i have spent nearly 16000 minutes winning 4p games. In case you're wondering that is 266 hours of tetris wins.
but anyway, i considered resetting my stats but i have decided i won't... just so i have the stats to prove it. However when i use a DS that has fewer wins i definitely get targeted less and can jack my rating a lot higher...
blah blah blah, this is getting stupid and verbose.

so i downloaded Lockjaw yesterday and bought a controller for my computer.some observations:
well it's pretty much bogus. I hate the "jankiness" of piece moving from side to side. It's like there are little steps the tetraminos have to hop over to get from place to place.
Vs mode is absolutely junk IMHO. I played probably 50 games against the "computer" and did not win once. this was despite hitting 3 tetrises b2b as well as 2 tspin doubles -- all within 10 seconds. I set up b2b tspin triples followed immediately by a tetris AND IT STILL DIDNT BEAT THE COMPUTER. Then, basically upon tepples recommendation, i tried vs w/ items. This mode seems to be a complete joke. I can lay about 8 pieces before the computer "items" kick in. Then i can last indefinitely but the ITEMS NEVER STOP. particularly the lightning bolt.
the worst part is the transition back to TDS. i couldn't even beat level 4 for 10 games.
now i'm kind of jaded.
LJ has a lot of potential but i really can't get over the "stickiness" and jankiness of x-axis movement. i'll admit i do like the line clear 'feel'. but the jankiness causes so many misdrops it's not worth it to me.

i started writing this then i deleted it. but you know what? i'm posting this just in the off-chance that he reads it.it went like this:
TGM-Arika (mihara) has made it known that he will be playing wifi today under the name "TGM-（・っ・）."
he said: "...because i have knowledge that HOLiC will not be playing today. yes, call me chicken."
and the fact that arika/mihara (whatever we want to call him) avoids wifi really pisses me off. so you've lost to him 90 times in a row.... yeah? big deal, he's beat me 30 times in a row.
you, my friend, are the early '90's Buffalo Bills. In fact, i propose you change your name to TGM-Buffalo Bill.
but what really upsets me is the disservice your'e doing to the tetris community because you're sick of losing to ONE PLAYER. A quick check of blockstats shows no activity for you in a LONG time -- which is a far cry from April when i would run into you almost nightly. The players now are much stronger. I would venture to say that Sen or pentium or Caithness or Millar or Rosti will split games with you.
playing you elevates the entire tetris community, it makes us sharper.
so stop avoiding. and don't hate.

new ds lite and injury

i've had a ds and a ds lite since the walmart release date, with two tetris games.today i bought a second ds lite because i never really played the DS -- it seems archaic and unresponsive compared to the ds lite. and now i'm going to do the rating experiment i've been meaning to: i'm going to use one when i'm in the zone and the other for fun -- because i don't have the will power to only play when i'm zoning when i'm making a rating run.
the name of the new ds lite is cosmonauTC.
if you run across it in a game there's the chance it may be me or it may be my girlfriend becuase i'll let her play wifi with this one. she is not good. and if you play her chances are that she will be shit talking your misdrops after she loses, just so you know.
but sometimes it might be me playing if i'm making a rating push on the cosmonaut ds.
yesterday i destroyed all chances of making a rating push. i was in the 7300's and took a break to play tennis -- exercise seems to jack up my concentration a lot -- and while swinging a racket in my left hand i struck my right hand on the tip of my thumb and now my thumb is decimated, it's got that telltale black and blue fingernail. yeah, so, it's not the most responsive thing in the world.
at least i still have all of my fingers.
